Why Golf Lessons at the Start of Your Journey Matter
Good evening everyone,
Welcome to our new weekly blog series! Our goal is to share knowledge that adds value to your golfing journey and to show how much we appreciate you as clients of Evolution Golf Academy.
This week’s blog is all about why getting lessons at the very start of your journey into golf is so important. Each day we’ll cover a new topic, and today we’re starting with one of the most important foundations: your Set Up.
What is Set Up?
Your set up is how you stand to the golf ball. It’s made up of four main pillars:
Grip – how you position your hands on the golf club
Stance – stance width, foot position, weight distribution, and ball position
Posture – how you tilt into your posture from the upper body, hips, and knees
Aim – how you aim the golf club and your body towards the target
Why is Set Up Important?
Your set up has a massive influence on your projected ball flight.
The club path and clubface at impact decide the direction your golf ball takes. How you position your hands and body at the start gives you a “projected” club path and face — in other words, a projected ball flight.
✅ Get these things right from the start and you’ve got a great chance to develop a swing with fewer compensations — meaning straighter, more consistent shots.
❌ Get them wrong, and you’ll likely build in swing faults as your brain works overtime trying to find ways to make the ball fly straight.
Final Thought
If you’re struggling to hit your desired ball flight, always check your set up first. Get the basics in place and you’ve already done half the work — then we can build on that to help you hit your target more often.
