Master the Lofted Chip – Coaching Series Breakdown

A quick coaching tip for you this week – and it’s one that’ll make a huge difference to your short game.

Chipping with Loft is one of those skills that can feel impossible… until you break it down properly. In this week’s Coaching Series, I walk you through how to get height, control, and confidence around the green – especially from tight lies.

COACHING SERIES OF THE WEEK

Chipping with Loft – Get Height and Soft Landings

Struggling to get the ball up and land it soft? It’s not about flicking your wrists or stabbing at it. It’s about structure, flow, and a few key setup changes.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Open Your Front Foot – Set it 45 degrees open to help your body rotate through.

  • Open the Clubface – Align the face slightly open to your toe line to add loft and promote clean contact.

  • Hinge the Wrists Gently – Use a light wrist hinge on the backswing to set the club.

  • Pause at the Top – Just for a second – this keeps you in control and stops you from rushing the strike.

  • Let It Fall & Rotate Through – Let the club drop naturally, then rotate your body and carry the club through to the finish.

It’s a smooth, connected motion that creates height, spin, and feel.
No stabbing. No decel. Just proper short game technique.
